An Overview of Herpes

One of the worst things about being in a sexual relationship is finding out that a little fun has put left you with a sexually transmitted infection. It’s a scary time especially when you contract the dreaded STI called Herpes. This is one of the worst STI’s to contract as there is no way to rid yourself of this disease. However, thanks to research and the use of modern medicine, herpes is treatable by a drug called Valtrex.
Herpes, or as it is medically called Herpes Simplex, is the appearance of sores around the genitals or mouth. They usually appear there and last for a period of 2 to 21 days. Herpes is something you cannot be rid of and the only true form of protection is abstinence. Now, if there is not an outbreak and you are using protection, such as a condom, then the chances of spreading the virus are slim but still there could be risk for infection.
If you do end up with Herpes there is a drug called Valtrex. Valtrex comes in brand and generic form. The generic name is called Valcyclovir. The way it works is Aciclovir, which is the active part of Valcyclovir, is very helpful against most variations of the Herpes family. Now, a word to the wise: Valtrex can be given to treat other symptoms so if your partner turns up with it in their medicine chest don’t be worried.
Valtrex is also used in many cases to treat shingles as well as certain aspects of the Epstein-Barr syndrome. Those who are on Valtrex can experience side effects such as vomiting, nausea, headache and diarrhea. And although it is much less likely, patients can experience vertigo, constipation, and sore throat.
If you have contracted this unfortunate infection then you can live with the satisfaction of knowing that there is treatment available. And with regular treatment outbreaks can be few and far between. But still, make sure you are always wearing protection and that your partner is aware of your infection as well as any outbreaks.

Herpes and STD is something people like to joke about but it is a DISEASE which should be taken seriously. It can spread and cause misery and death, no different from any other sickness. I think it’s about high time we treat this with a little more gravity.
